Everything you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.

In little over a week is left for the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2020 event where the company will announce its next flagship S20 series and the new foldable smartphone i.e – The Galaxy Flip with a clamshell, the trend which was started by Motorola with its iconic MotoRazr. It has its fair share of leaks to it so this is everything we know about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.

 Galaxy Z Flip Design

Let’s talk about the design first, The Galaxy Z Flip looks like a normal tall smartphone that folds in vertically in half, unlike the Moto Razr which was specially designed to look like the old Razr. We saw the first live images of the phone back in December last year which revealed the clamshell design that Samsung is using for its next foldable phone. Galaxy Z Flip, when unfolded looks a lot like the S20+ but has big bezels, a tall display with a centred punch-hole just like the S20 series and has a 22:9 aspect ratio.

The display is layered on the Ultra-Thin-Glass layered which will be able to bend. The glass is layered in layered of a flexible polymer, same as Galaxy Fold and Samsung has put an extra layered of plastic safeguard both the Infinity Flex display & the Glass. There’s also a second display on the front which is very small measuring 1.06 inches in size which can only be used to display time, date, battery not anything else. there are two rear cameras.

There’s a bit of gap when the phone folds just like the Galaxy Fold, though it is said that the gap on the Galaxy Z Flip is needed for Ultra-Thin Glass to fold so that it doesn’t break while folding anyway it makes it easy to unfold it. Coming to hinge, its an aluminium hinge and is different than what we have seen in Galaxy Fold or the Moto Razr, it locks in two different positions as it uses a double-pivot hinge which can be useful for videos & ofcourse it folds flat into its smaller size.

The device has two rear dual cameras on the front/folded front consists of two 12MP cameras of which is main wide cameras and there’s a single camera at the front.

 Galaxy Z Flip Renders.

A while back, Samsung Galaxy Z flip was leaked in all its glory, thanks to @Ronaldquandt & Evan Blass. The renders reveal the foldable phone in its Pinkish/ Purple & Black colour. It shows how the phone will look like when its folded plus the mechanism of it though the hinge seems similar to Galaxy Fold but is smaller, basically its a phone that looks like Galaxy Fold but folds off different axis/way. there were rumours of white colour as well but it is nowhere to be seen.

The foldable phone has a fingerprint scanner although it’s not an under-display fingerprint scanner but an actual fingerprint scanner.

Galaxy Z Flip Specifications.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is different than the Galaxy Fold in terms of actual size, how it folds and aspect ratio. The foldable phone features a 6.7inch Dynamic AMOLED display with FullHD+ resolution, a 22:9 aspect ratio. It has a centred punch-hole for the single front camera, Always-On display, Corning Gorilla Glass 6 for protection. Moreover, there’s a small secondary display on the front measuring 1.06inch which can only be used to see the time, date & battery with 300×116 resolution.

Under the hood, well like any other flagship smartphone it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+, well yeah technically a year-old chipset though still good. It has an 8GB LPDDRX RAM & 256GB internal storage with UFS 3.0. Runs on OneUI 2,0 on top of Android 10.

As for the cameras, the foldable smartphone has Dual rear camera though it doesn’t feature the 108MP sensor that many thought it would. The dual rear camera has two 12MP sensors which consist of a main wide camera & a second ultra-wide camera, the main wide camera will likely be the same sensor used in S20 & s20 Plus, which is Sony IMX 555, though the sensor of the ultra-wide is known yet. On the front, there’s a 10MP camera with Sony IMX 374 sensor same as Galaxy S10 or Note 10.

Unlike the S20, the Z Flip won’t have support for 4K @60fps rather it is limited to 4K @30fps. Samsung through the software will move the viewfinder of the camera to match the position of the hinge, which means users can fold the phone at 100% and use it stand on a table to record video and the phone will match it.

The Galaxy Z Flip uses two battery as they did with Galaxy Fold, one of the batteries are 900mAh battery & the second one is off 2400mAh, which makes it 3300mAh that isn’t huge for a big phone, both the battery will support 15W support, reverse charging and wireless charging.
